personal work, free motion embroidery, 2012

Among other architecture tools in my Grandfather's room, I found an interior template. The template represents space, proportion, shape, depth and design - all fundamental visual elements. It is traditionally used to create perfection and accuracy in architectural design, but in his room he was not accurate. He would make things sturdy and functional but not necessarily aesthetically pleasing or refined. In contrast, this piece is delicate, non-functional but aesthetically pleasing (at least to me). Through making, I can explore the similarities and difference of my predecessor.
